The Australian Pacific Touring (APT) Travel Group is setting a new benchmark for opulence and comfort in the competitive world of luxury river cruises. Unveiling plans for the MS Estrela, a bespoke cruiser destined to pioneer a luxurious voyage on Portugal’s Douro River, the company is on track to redefine water travel standards. Set for her inaugural journey in 2024, this trailblazing riverboat aims to offer an unparalleled travel experience.
The MS Estrela signifies an essential expansion for the APT Travel Group following the successful launch of its three ultra-modern Travelmarvel vessels: Polaris, Capella, and Vega. These impressive river cruisers are setting sail on the Rhine, Main, and Danube Rivers. The MS Estrela will cater to guests from the APT and Travelmarvel brands, featuring unique itineraries and perks tailored to each brand.
David Cox, CEO of APT, expressed his excitement and anticipation for MS Estrela’s addition to the fleet. “With years of experience operating in Portugal, we await the Estrela’s first cruise. Our commitment to unparalleled quality is evident in every detail of this new addition. As she makes her first splash on the Douro River, our guests will marvel at the Estrela’s magnificent design, inspired by the Douro Valley’s scenic landscape and complemented by a contemporary Southern European ambience,” said Cox.
Despite her compact size, the MS Estrela can accommodate up to 120 guests, promising a grandiose experience. Among her unique features, she will sport a sun deck with a pool rivalling the largest on the Douro River. An outdoor bar, comfortable seating, and even a golf-putting green will complement this recreation space. The Estrela, translating to ‘star’ in Portuguese, will be a bright addition to the European fleet.
The MS Estrela ensures a gastronomic journey for its guests with an array of Portuguese, Mediterranean, and international cuisine at its main restaurant. Light meals will be available in the ship’s lounge, or guests can dine alfresco on the lounge’s exterior deck. Each suite has an ensuite bathroom, personal climate control, flatscreen TVs and free Wi-Fi.
The vessel’s balcony suites introduce a pioneering design previously featured in Travelmarvel’s contemporary ships cruising the Rhine and Danube. Electric slide-down windows open up to French balconies, immersing guests in the splendid landscapes of the Douro River.
Critical itineraries for the MS Estrela’s maiden season include the 14-day ‘Douro Delights’ tour, sailing from Lisbon to Madrid from June to October 2024, and the ‘Douro Discovery’, an 8-day round trip from Porto also planned from June to October 2024.
As we await the complete 2024 Europe programs for APT and Travelmarvel, the anticipation for this luxury vessel’s debut grows. Contact your professional travel agent today to glimpse this upcoming marvel or express your interest.
