Jay Leno, the renowned late-night talk show host and comedian, has been bestowed with the honour of becoming the godfather to Carnival Venezia. This magnificent cruise ship promises to combine Carnival’s trademark fun with Italian elegance. Carnival Cruise Line made the exciting announcement today, revealing that Leno will grace the celebratory event on June 14, 2023, in New York City, where the ship will be blessed before embarking on its inaugural voyage. This unprecedented collaboration between Leno and Carnival Cruise Line is set to delight guests with a unique comedy show presented exclusively for event attendees in partnership with Carnival World Mastercard.
Carnival Venezia christened initially in 2019 under the auspices of Costa Cruises, Carnival’s Italian sister brand, will now join the Carnival fleet, making its grand entrance from New York. To mark this momentous occasion, the cruise line sought a charismatic godfather who would embody the spirit of fun while honouring the vessel’s Italian heritage. Jay Leno emerged as the perfect candidate, boasting an Italian lineage and a previous association with Carnival Cruise Line. He had entertained guests as part of the Carnival LIVE entertainment series a few years ago, establishing a deep connection with the Carnival family.
Leno humbly accepted the role expressing his gratitude, stating, “I am truly honored to be named the godfather of Carnival Venezia. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse.” Reflecting on the fusion of Carnival’s vitality and the ship’s Italian theme, Leno added, “Carnival’s focus on FUN combined with the Italian theming of this ship is truly unique. Leno, a native of New Rochelle, NY, can trace his roots back to Flumeri, Campania, Italy. He initially made his mark in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian, eventually becoming the beloved host of The Tonight Show for nearly two decades, a reign that ended in 2014. Throughout his tenure, Leno’s show consistently reigned as the top-rated late-night talk show, earning him the title of “the hardest working man in show business.”
While retired from The Tonight Show, Leno remains an active presence in the entertainment world.
