Avalon Waterways’ President, Pam Hoffee, joined hands with Australia’s media icon and new ambassador, Melissa Doyle, shedding light on the future of river cruising to an eager audience at Sydney’s prime InterContinental rooftop, Aster.
The scene, set against a lavish two-course lunch, buzzed with the anticipation of what’s next for Avalon in 2024. Hoffee elaborated on the shifting currents of traveller trends. “This year has seen record numbers, with many seeking extended holidays,” she remarked. Responding to soaring demand, Avalon swiftly introduced Festive Cruises in November and December, which received overwhelming responses. “We’re introducing two more festive trips on the Danube to cater to this trend,” added Hoffee.
Echoing the sentiments of modern travellers, Hoffee emphasized the importance of choice. Since launching its Active & Discovery segment in 2017, Avalon saw a surge in popularity, especially among Gen X. The segment allows travellers to personalize their journey and has become the brand’s fastest-growing European package.
European river cruising’s allure continues to rise, with France projected to remain a top destination in 2024. Hoffee enthused, “The diversity of French waterways captivates all – from art enthusiasts to culinary aficionados and history enthusiasts.” With that, she hinted at Avalon’s newest offering, ‘Vida Portugal: Vineyards & Villages’, set to premiere on the Douro in 2024. Hoffee tantalizingly hinted at another exciting destination, promising further announcements.
Celebrity ambassador Melissa Doyle endorsed Avalon’s brand, recalling her 2022 journey. She praised Avalon’s unique blend of leisure and luxury, emphasizing its broad appeal.
